Hello. I am Professor Peter Francis, deputy Vice Chancellor at Birmingham City University. I am sorry that I am unable to join you today on this momentous occasion, but I am pleased that I have had the opportunity to send you this message of congratulations. Graduation is a time of great joy and pride in your accomplishments. It is a time to celebrate with friends, family and with tutors who have guided you on your journey to this ceremony.

You should all be very proud of what you have achieved. What makes graduation so special is the unique story each and every graduate has to share. You will all have your own path that you have followed to this point and you will all have different paths to follow in the future. But you should share in your pride today as you become a graduate of Birmingham City University. I hope you all feel inspired as you hear each other's stories today and you join together to celebrate all of your many accomplishments.

Many of you will have been juggling your studies with other commitments, demonstrating your ambition and commitment to growing and developing to be the very best you can be. This dedication stands you in good stead for your future endeavours and I hope your studies lead you to fulfil all of your hopes and ambitions. Here at Birmingham City University, we are committed to transforming the lives of our students and in turn the lives of society through the work of our graduates. Java Institute Convocation 2023

On 24th March 2023, the Java Institute for Advanced Technology recently held its convocation ceremony, celebrating the accomplishments of over 400 software engineering graduates. The ceremony was held at the BMICH Main Hall in Colombo from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm and was attended by proud family members, esteemed faculty, and distinguished guests.

The Java Institute for Advanced Technology is a renowned institution known for providing top-quality education and training in the Software Engineering field. It is recognized for its innovative approach to teaching and research and is committed to providing students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in their chosen careers.

During the convocation ceremony, the graduates were praised for their hard work and dedication and urged to use their education to positively impact the world. Wushu Club - Java Institute

Mountaineering Club - Java Institute

Mountaineering is a challenging sport that involves climbing mountains and steep terrains using various techniques such as hiking, rock climbing, ice climbing, and alpine climbing. It can be done either alone or as part of a team. To succeed in mountaineering, one must possess physical strength, endurance, technical skills, and knowledge of safety procedures and equipment. Mountaineering can be high-risk, with hazards such as rockfall, avalanches, and extreme weather conditions. Hence, safety precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of the participants.
The Adventure Wolves Society at Java Institute is a mountaineering society that provides monthly mountain climbing expeditions for students. The society chooses routes that are both challenging and scenic, which include popular destinations like Horton Plains, Kirigalpotta, Thotupala Mountain, Adams Peak, Namunukula, Kinihirigala, Hulangala Mountain - Gampaha, Alagalla, Devil's Staircase, and others. The trips organized by the Adventure Wolves Society at Java Institute cater to both experienced and novice climbers.
The Adventure Wolves Society at Java Institute is a mountaineering society that provides students with a chance to explore the natural beauty, climb mountains, and gain valuable experiences that help them escape from their daily routines.

Motor Racing Club - Java Institute

The Motor Racing Club of Java Institute is a community of enthusiastic racing enthusiasts who share a passion for motorsports. The club provides a platform for students to develop their driving skills and compete in various racing events. With a focus on safety and skill development, the club organizes regular training sessions, track days, and competitive events. Members of the Motor Racing Club of Java Institute come from diverse backgrounds and have varying levels of experience, making it an inclusive and welcoming community for anyone with an interest in racing.
Karting events are included in the java institute club. In this, the path to becoming a professional racing driver from the beginner level is taught. Students who complete go-karting and gravel-karting levels are trained in stock car racing.
This club conducts karting training and karting championships. The winner will be given the scholarship to participate in the main events.
After karting, children who have experience can join the main events beyond that.
There is an internal professional racing team at the Java Institute, where there are venter drivers. Staff and students are involved in this

Archery Club - Java Institute

Archery is a sport in which participants use a bow and arrow to shoot at a target from a specified distance. The objective is to hit the target with the arrow as accurately and consistently as possible. It requires physical and mental strength, as well as precision and focus. Archery can be practiced individually or in teams and is often enjoyed as a recreational activity as well as a competitive sport. It has a long and rich history, with roots in hunting and warfare, and has become a popular Olympic sport.

Dancing Society - Java Institute

The Java Institute Dancing Society is home to some of the most talented and skilled dancers in Sri Lanka. The society is led by two headmasters, Mr. Priyadesh Gamage and Mrs. K. S. Rangika Jayasinghe, who are both highly accomplished dancers with extensive experience in a variety of dance styles.

Mr. Priyadesh Gamage is a master of art graduate from the University of Kelaniya, Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he majored in dance. He also holds a bachelor of arts degree from the same university and a diploma in Kathakali Dancing from Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University in India. Mr. Gamage is a qualified choreographer and a member of the Judge Board of the All Ceylon Government Schools Dancing Competition.

He is an expert in various dance styles and techniques, including Western styles such as Contemporary, Latin, and Freestyle dance, Indian styles such as Kathakali, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bollywood, and Indian folk dance, and Sri Lankan styles such as Kandyan, Low country, Sabaragamuwa, and Sri Lankan all folk-dance styles. Mr. Gamage has skills and competencies in dance concepts, choreography, designing and planning dance routines, knowledge of dance theory and history, evaluating student performance, understanding safe dance practices and injury prevention, physical fitness and strength, flexibility and coordination, musicality and rhythm, memorization and recall of choreography, performance skills, and stage presence.
He has also showcased his talent on an international stage, including performances such as the Peacock Ballet (Mayura Sandeshaya) at the Key Theatre in the UK, the International Ramayan Ballet in Indonesia and India, the Shakunthala Ballet at the Goethe Institute in India, and The Vijayakala Kuveni Ballet in Ladakh, India.

Mrs. K. S. Rangika Jayasinghe is another talented headmaster of the Java Institute Dancing Society. She holds a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Special) Degree from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in Sri Lanka and completed a one-year dancing diploma in Indonesia. She has also completed Visharadha Part II at Kathak Lucknow University in India and a yoga course in Bali, Indonesia. Mrs. Jayasinghe is a qualified professional dancer, director, and choreographer, and a teacher at several dance academies in Sri Lanka.
She has performed internationally at various events and festivals, including the ICCR Program in India, the Kathakar Festival in Bangalore and Delhi, the Sibu Dance Festival in Malaysia, the Ramayanaya Dance Drama program in India, and Sri Lankan traditional dance performances in Trivendrapuram India.
In conclusion, Mr. Priyadesh Gamage and Mrs. K. S. Rangika Jayasinghe are both accomplished dancers with extensive experience and expertise in a variety of dance styles. They are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and passion for dance with students at the Java Institute Dancing Society and inspiring them to reach their full potential.

Diving Club - Java Institute

Exploring the underwater world using specialized equipment, such as scuba gear, is known as underwater diving. Scuba diving enables divers to breathe underwater, allowing them to stay submerged for extended periods and explore the aquatic environment. There are various types of underwater diving, including recreational, technical, and commercial diving. Recreational diving is the most popular type of diving, undertaken for leisure purposes, such as exploring coral reefs or shipwrecks. Technical diving involves advanced equipment and training and is typically done to explore deeper or more challenging dive sites. Commercial diving is done for professional purposes, such as underwater construction or maintenance.

Proper training and certification, as well as specialized equipment such as wetsuits, tanks, regulators, and fins, are required for underwater diving. It also necessitates a strong understanding of safety procedures and skills such as buoyancy control, equalization, and underwater communication. Underwater diving can be an exciting and rewarding experience, offering divers a unique perspective on the underwater world and a sense of exploration and adventure.

The Java Institute diving club, based in the Unawatuna area, guides children to obtain PADI certification for safe and professional-level diving. Interested children can join the club without prior knowledge, and PADI-certified trainers provide training from basic to advanced levels.
